Rockford Fosgate P2D2 – See price or buy

If you love powerful bass, the Rockford Fosgate Punch P2D2 subwoofer is a great choice. The deep Kevlar-reinforced paper cone is designed to punch in the air, creating thunderous bass notes to fill your music.

The sound is loud and snappy, but the downside is that it doesn’t deliver a well-rounded and clear bass note. However, it is one of the few series that features subwoofers of all types and sizes, ranging from 8 ” to 15 ”. We have chosen it specifically for its enormous versatility. The Punch series is among the most popular on the market. While the punchy sound is perfect for some genres that focus on snappy beats and basslines, it can get too aggressive for some type of mixes. The 400 watt power rating is good, but not great, and the same goes for the 800 watt peak power.

It’s the 86dB sensitivity ratings that pose a problem, as it’s 10dB below the most efficient subwoofers. Just to point out, the 10 dB difference is considered to be the point where the sound is perceived as twice as loud. This means that the most efficient subwoofers we’ve reviewed can achieve twice the perceived volume using the same amount of power. The Punch simply cannot achieve the same volumes as the thunderous noises produced by the best subwoofers.

Pros:

  • All measures
  • Good and punchy bass
  • Low resonant frequency

Versus:

  • Low sensitivity
  • Average power handling
  • Too much mounting depth

Rockford Fosgate P3SD2-8  – See price or buy

Not all cars are designed with deep enough spaces to accommodate large subwoofers. The P3SD2-8 is a compact sub designed just for this type of situation. It is part of the Punch series, one of the most popular ranges of car subwoofers to come out of the Rockford stable. The surface design is one of the highlights of this 8-inch subwoofer. It’s only 2.5 inches deep, which is quite rare for regular subwoofers. Thanks to this design, the sub is able to fit into spaces that were previously considered unsuitable. The sub has an anodized aluminum cone, surrounded by Santoprene instead of ordinary rubber. The use of aluminum makes this subwoofer more robust at the expense of size.

The P3SD2-8 is dual 2 ohm coil and has a maximum RMS of 150 watts or 75 watts per coil. With a peak power of 300 watts, this subwoofer can look suboptimal on paper. But the fact that you manage to put it in small spaces like those in the doors compensates for the handicap of power. Sensitivity at 82dB is below average and frequency response is between 38 and 250Hz, which isn’t bad for a subwoofer. And thanks to the dual 2 ohm configuration, you can easily plug it with other subwoofers into an audio system. It also works well with a 4 ohm mono amplifier, rated up to 225 watts.

While this sub delivers pretty good bass, it doesn’t offer high performance compared to similarly sized OEM subs. It is best used as an addition to cars that don’t have a stock audio system.

Pros:

  • Attractive design
  • 2 Ohm voice coils

Versus:

  • Not ready to replace a stock subwoofer

Kicker 43 C104 Comp 25  – See price or buy

Kicker is a very reliable choice when looking for affordable aftermarket solutions in the car audio field. And if you’re looking for a subwoofer to add some necessary bass to your audio setup, the Kicker 43C104 is a great value for money option. We are talking about a 10-inch subwoofer, quite large and sold without a case. You can use a sealed box though – it will provide excellent bass regardless of which one you choose. Accessibility and reliability are the keywords, so don’t expect a classy product. For an entry-level rig, the horsepower figures are quite satisfactory.

You’ll get 300 watts peak and 150W RMS output. Build quality is pretty decent, which holds within Kicker’s standards. The cone is made of sturdy polypropylene, with foam coating. Unlike normal flat edges, the design maintains the acceleration of the bang cone with longer excursions. The foundation of the subwoofer is provided by a sturdy steel basket with nails; reliable double stitching completes a very durable package. The bass levels are quite deep, although they will never break window panes. It has a high frequency response range between 30Hz and 500Hz and an average flat-out sensitivity of 86.2 decibels.

Pros:

  • Deep bass
  • Decent build quality
  • Budget-friendly without losing performance

Versus:

  • For this price, it really does what you expect

Skar Audio is not a brand known by everyone and the thing, if you think about it, is a bit sad as they certainly deserve to be at the top like the most well-known brands. The VVX-10v3 opens up new horizons in terms of reliability, power and performance. This model has an RMS of 600W and a maximum output of 1200W, no doubt enough for most people. The sub plays loud and will make your music much better in any form. Uses sturdy Y30 2.5 dual voice coil 2 Ohm magnets. The frequency range on the VVX-10v3 is 40Hz-450Hz.  Overall, the Skar Audio brand deserves a lot more attention. • Double 2 Ohm
  • Well built
